Round Yon Virgin Mother and child

Holy Infant, so tender and mild,

sleep in heavenly peace (2)

Silent Night! Holy Night!

Shepherds quake at the sight

Glories stream from heaven afar

Heav’nly host sing, “Alleluia”

Christ, the saviour is born (2)

Silent Night! Holy Night!

Son of God, Love’s pure light

Radiant beams from Thy holy face

With the dawn of redeeming grace

Jesus Lord at Thy birth (2)

Joy to the World

Joy to the world, the Lord has come, Let earth receive her king
Let every heart prepare his room, And heav’n and nature sing.

Joy to the world, the saviour reigns, Let men their songs emply,
While fields and floods, Rocks, hills and plains, Repeat the sounding joy.

No more let sin and sorrow grow, Nor thorns infest the ground
He comes to make his blessings flow, Far as the curse is found.

He rules the world with truth and grace, And makes the nations prove
The glories of his righteousness And wonders of his love.

O Holy Night Lyrics Sung by Celine Dion now has became a well known Carol all over the world
The old carol ‘O Holy Night’ words were written by Placide Cappeau de Roquemaure in 1847. He was a wine seller by trade but was asked by the parish priest to write a poem for Christmas. He obliged and wrote the beautiful words of the hymn. He then realised that it should have music to accompany the words and he approached his friend Adolphe Charles Adams(1803-1856). He agreed and the music for the poem was therefore composed by Adolphe Charles Adams. Adolphe had attended the Paris conservatoire and forged a brilliant career as a composer. It was translated into English by John Sullivan Dwight (1812-1893).

O Holy Night! The stars are brightly shining,
It is the night of the dear Saviour’s birth.
Long lay the world in sin and error pining.
Till He appeared and the Spirit felt its worth.
A thrill of hope the weary world rejoices,
For yonder breaks a new and glorious morn.
Fall on your knees! Oh, hear the angel voices!
O night divine, the night when Christ was born;
O night, O Holy Night , O night divine!
O night, O Holy Night , O night divine!

Led by the light of faith serenely beaming,
With glowing hearts by His cradle we stand.
O’er the world a star is sweetly gleaming,
Now come the wisemen from out of the Orient land.
The King of kings lay thus lowly manger;
In all our trials born to be our friends.
He knows our need, our weakness is no stranger,
Behold your King! Before him lowly bend!
Behold your King! Before him lowly bend!

Truly He taught us to love one another,
His law is love and His gospel is peace.
Chains he shall break, for the slave is our brother.
And in his name all oppression shall cease.
Sweet hymns of joy in grateful chorus raise we,
With all our hearts we praise His holy name.
Christ is the Lord! Then ever, ever praise we,
His power and glory ever more proclaim!
His power and glory ever more proclaim!

After First Reading….

Angels We Have Heard on High

Angels we’ve heard on high, Sweetly singing o’er the plains;
And the mountains in reply, Echoing their joyous strains
Gloria in excelsis Deo (2)

Shepherds why this jubliee? Why your joyous songs prolong?
What the gladsome tidings be, Which inspire your heavenly song?
Gloria in excelsis Deo (2)

Come to Bethlehem and see, Him whose birth the angels sing;
Come adore on bended knee, Christ the Lord, our new Born King
Gloria in excelsis Deo. (2)

I Believe!

I believe for every drop of rain that falls, A flower grows…I believe
I believe A candle glows….I believe
I believe For anyone who goes astray, Someone will come to show the way.
I Believe, I believe.
I believe That above the storm, The smallest prayer will still be heard, I believe
I believe That someone in the great somewhere, Hears every word…I believe
Every time I hear a new born baby cry, or touch a leaf or see the sky,
Then I know why…..I believe.
