Long before, a friend had an allergic problem. She referred to the age old medicinal therapy of warm honey water with lemon and the results were quite effective. Honey is quite a good remedy for hay fever. Though it’s not a substitute for sugar, it contains main components fructose and glucose.

Honey as a carbohydrate food is rapidly and directly absorbed into the blood. Therefore it supplies energy very quickly to the various organs, muscles, brain, etc. The absorption of fructose is faster than that of glucose. For weakened or over-exerted people, this rapid energy supply is of great nutritional value.

Researchers checked the blood of 25 men aged 18 – 68 over five weeks. They found drinking four tablespoons of honey mixed into a 16-ounce glass of water improved the antioxidant levels in their blood. Honey has antibacterial and antibiotic effect. Even for the liver patients, honey is often recommended as liver function is rapidly activated by fructose. Honey is found to have a laxative effect and as such it stimulates the secretions of the intestines.

Honey has healing powers and has been known for centuries. It has been used as a medicine since ancient times by Egyptians who regarded it as a cure. In Manchester, a hospital has been using special honey-coated dressings. Why, in our daily use, when we have cold in winter, honey goes best with ginger and lemon. Also with Tulsi leaves paste and honey act as a remedy for coughs and colds. In hay fever, honey is the best remedy and quite comforting too.

Honey is an excellent treatment for conditioning hair, as it contains potassium and vitamins A, B and C. All of these nutrients are essential for moisturized, healthy and shiny hair. Honey hair treatment recipes are used regularly to repair damaged hair, or as a preventative measure. They are particularly effective for dry, brittle and color-treated hair, although any hair type will benefit.  Olive oil and honey hair treatment is also an effective remedy for hairy problems.
